A day ahead of his official NYC live debut, halcyon is proud to present an intimate instore session with Terrence Dixon, the Detroit techno legend also known as Population One whose minimalist, experimental output in the mid to late ’90s cut the forward edge for the sound of techno in the following decade. Already a notorious recluse, Terrence’s near-disappearance in the 2000s was little surprise when the sound was rapidly moving away from Detroit, but his resounding return to music making in the last two years has been greeted with open arms and lauded by critics. It’s no surprise really; one listen to his high-ranking Tresor album, From The Far Future Part 2, or any of his releases on THEMA and Chronicle shows that he’s back at the very top of his game and pouring out new music at a bracing pace. We’re not going to wax emotional about every release he’s dropped here, but we’re pleased that a Brooklyn-based label was instrumental in reawakening music fans to Terrence, and we can’t think of a more appropriate person than THEMA head Lenny Posso to share duties behind the boards for this special, intimate event. Apologies for the late announcement, but Terrence has always been the inscrutable sort… It took a bit of persuasion to make this happen. He’s bringing a whole different set to play tonight, so make sure to come for the real thing tomorrow when he lays it down on the decks and on his production rig at National Underground. Come in person or tune in online; this is sure to be one for the ages.
